RCS-9100
Home Up RCS-2010B S-8110 RCS-8210DP RCS-9100

The RCS-9100 system includes a high-resolution zoom color TV camera and quartz-halogen light in a single underwater housing. The underwater cable connector is located on top of the housing such that the camera view (and light pattern) is at right angles to the cable as the unit is lowered into the water. The primary application for the RCS-9100 is underwater inspection in nuclear applications.

The camera in the RCS-9100 incorporates both automatic focus and automatic iris control with manual override. The unit is supplied standard with a high resolution (470 TV lines) S-video format. The camera has an optical zoom range of 10:1, with an additional 4:1 digital zoom. The 10:1 optical zoom will provide a horizontal field of view from 46 degrees to 4.86 degrees in air, and from 34.2 degrees to 3.65 degrees underwater.

The camera is also equipped with an integration feature that greatly increases the effective light sensitivity. With the integration feature turned off, the minimum scene illumination required by the camera is 4 lux @ f/1.8. With the integration set to ¼ second (maximum period) the light collected is 15 times that with the normal 1/60 second integration, and the minimum scene illumination is reduced to 0.27 lux. With the standard 35 watt, 30 degree bulb installed, the calculated underwater scene illumination is 0.27 lux at a distance of 50 feet. This calculation assumes relatively clear water (attenuation coefficient alpha of 0.1).

The RCS-9100 incorporates a 35 Watt high intensity pre-focused bulb with a beam pattern of 30 degrees to the half power points. Operated at 12 volts, the rated bulb lifetime is 3000 hours. A table is included which shows the effective underwater scene illumination as a function of distance from the light. These calculated values take into account the light spreading loss as well as the two-way attenuation losses.

The housing for the RCS-9100 is fabricated of 300 series stainless steel, utilizes non-browning fused quartz for both the TV and light windows, and is rated for underwater operation to 200 feet.
